Vice President, Development & Outreach
The Progress & Freedom Foundation (PFF) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit, market-oriented think tank founded in 1993 and based in Washington, D.C. that studies the digital revolution and its implications for public policy. Our four centers cover (i) communications law and policy; (ii) intellectual property, especially copyright; (ii) media policy; and (iv) Internet policy. PFF is looking for a development director to oversee outreach to supporters and other third parties, and to help us grow the organization going forward.
The VP of Development & Outreach will:
- Work in close collaboration with the President, the VP of Press and External Affairs, as well as PFF’s senior fellows and Center directors to craft a public policy agenda for the organization and find support for it.
- Strengthen PFF’s existing relationships and cultivate new ones;
- Craft effective proposals that will help PFF grow its base of support over time;
- Manage correspondence with donors;
- Develop and maintain a solid database of past, current, and prospective funders;
- Help prepare PFF’s leadership to initiate and maintain relationships with funders; and
- Lead internal meetings about fundraising strategies and tactics.
The ideal candidate will:
- Possess excellent writing, speaking, persuasive, and organizational skills;
- Have prior related work experience in fundraising and development, preferably in politics or public policy, dealing with corporations, trade associations, foundations and individuals;
- Enjoy working in a fast-paced environment;
- Have a working knowledge of technology policy and an affection for information technology tools; and
- Understand and embrace PFF’s mission and public policy objectives.
