Is it possible that there are other cultural variable that make failure much more debilitating in those countries than it is here? I also question whether it is fair lump all european countries into this same category. Some countries may have more to lose than others when it comes to substantial risk. I wonder if it is fair to say that if th whole of Europe would embrace American capitalist ideals, then success would surely follow. Ethical pluralism seems called for here. I hesitate to even commit to the idea that rapid and therefore sometimes poorly thought out technological advances should always be the most important goal.
