I would be interested to see some research on if non violent children can be made to be violent. I have seen the bobo doll study but it proves nothing. There is no harm in hitting a doll – is kicking a ball an act of violence? Or is it the intent which goes with it?

Maybe if the parents spent a little more time with their kids instead of allowing video games and television to babysit them there would be less problems with our youths. I dont think video games have anything to do with the way our children are acting these days. http://itsgrindingmygears.blogspot.com/

This is the second blog I have found today about violent computer games.
I can see how some may feel that the virtual world is creating a removed sense of belonging from the actual world. By this, I mean that 6 hours of concentration on anything will have an effect on other activities. This must be an increasing factor in accidents in those whom play fast car games. They play these games because they want to experience the thrill of driving 90mph. I'm sure it can be argued that people who play shooting games want to shoot things. And why is this so disturbing? As humans we are naturally hunter gathers and could this be a healthy way for our predatory instincts to be satisfied.
I do feel though that with ‘hunting’ games 90% of those who play don’t own a firearm and wouldn’t actually shoot another person or animal. But 90% of those whom are racing game fans will most likely drive a car. The last 3 hour rally still fresh in the mind of the driver pushes them to taking corners a little too fast, breaking a little too late and accelerating a little higher, getting closer to the experience of the game.

I would be interested to see some research on if non violent children can be made to be violent. I have seen the bobo doll study but it proves nothing. There is no harm in hitting a doll – is kicking a ball an act of violence? Or is it the intent which goes with it?

I believe that it is the human desire and instinct is at fault not the games which allow them to process these desires. If someone has a natural hunting or tracking ability why not try something like http://www.strikelaser.com.au/ where you can have a fun and controlled experience. For avid drivers, take advanced driving courses and experience the thrill of driving at a higher skill level in a safe environment.

Actually, he's pointed out that none of this research proves anything, and he used logic, common sense and real world crime statistics to do it. He's also pointed out that lab constructs often have little to do with reality and often alter the study results. That's just bad science. Maybe that doesn't sit right with your moral outrage over violent games/media though.

Well done. You've countered actual research with... nothing. There's nothing to say that the reduction in crime isn't due to other overwhelming factors such as education and the increase in the awareness of womens rights, for example. Computer games could still be a negative contributing factor to crime, but not be significant enough to counteract other positive factors.
Essentially you've proved nothing, and demonstrated nothing that counters lab research.
