Good job explaining the complexity of export controls in a short space! And thanks for bringing some info about export compliance into the open. Sometimes it seems like its own little world! What are your thoughts on the TRADE Act?

I am not really sure if best practices have emerged around things like that, but I am sure that your great job is clearly identifed. I was wondering if you offer any subscription to your RSS feeds as I would be very interested and can’t find any link to subscribe here. Please come visit my site greenhouses when you got time.

The U.S. has not one system of export controls but several. You focus on the Commerce Control List of "dual use" items administered by the Commerce Department's Bureau of Industry & Security (BIS) under the Export Administration Regulations (EAR). The EAR may not be fun, but it's a walk in the park compared to State Department's International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR), which applies to militarily sensitive technologies covered by the U.S. Munitions List (USML). In theory, the USML is supposed to be things like tanks, bombs and nerve gas, but unfortunately, it also covers essentially all space-related technologies, including not only launch vehicles (most of which closely resemble missile technologies), but satellites and anything else related to a space mission. It is an utter nightmare, especially for smaller, commercial NewSpace companies.
