The real problem is monetization: how to get the money out. The Networks still don't seem to get it: how to monetize their content. They should have contacted me years ago. I could have saved them and the world a whole lot of pain.

I cut your so called cord years ago. I've been using various network websites for news, BBC, CBC, Al Jazeera, CNN, FOX, Yahoo, etc. Many networks now have full episodes of my favorite TV Shows online. When I combine all of this with services like TVShack, Surfthechannel, YouKu, TuDou, 6, Sina.com, Video.Google, YouTube, Fora, Ted, et al, I get all the TV and Movies a healthy mind needs or desires. Not to mention free video/audio courses from numerous technology companies and a plethora of the worlds leading Universities.

I don't see much use for separate TV Channels - Cable or Satellite, except to placate old-school folk. I don't know enough about IPTV, but so far I haven't heard that IPTV provides anything beyond what's been demonstrated with InternetTV/Video streaming.

Like the internet and "The Information Highway" the convergence of TV and the Internet is already here it's called "Streaming Video", and PodCast. To see the web on your TV just connect an HDMI Cable to your TV. We don't need Cable or Satellite except as a carrier for TCP/IP. I've been saying this now for almost 15 years: is anybody listening?.
