When a product gets <i>"old"</i> manufactures have been known to discontinue developing updates for the product and even to remove all references to the <i>"old"</i> product from their webpages. DRM crippled HDVD players are currently <i>"new"</i> . But what happens in a few years as these players age????? Are the HDVD manufactures really going to invest significant resources in keeping the old players functional? Based on my experience, the answer is no. So not only will the consumer have an unreliable product, it will also become prematurely obsolete.
