&lt;p&gt;While it would be an unfortunate patent civil war of sorts to have high-tech go up against big pharma, its also unfortunate that the pharmaceutical sector does not want to modernize patent policy to address how innovation and industry have progressed over the past few decades.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;The FOSS movement, and others who aim suspicious glances towards the IP part of the tech industry, are really looking in the wrong direction for those stalling the improvement of our patent system.&lt;/p&gt;
