Hip-hop music has long co-existed uneasily with copyright law. The article does a good job of pointing out how major labels often wink and nod at unauthorized mixtape culture, where it suits their interests. I agree with the author of the article that there are likely plenty of powerful people in the biz who would have preferred this raid never happened.
