MikeT,

Providing you with 6 channels hardly costs any less than providing you with 300 channels. So if taking only 6 channels doesn't save the cable company any money, why should you get a discount?

Adam,

Some of us would have no problem paying higher per channel prices for only certain channels. I'd rather pay $30/month for Sci Fi, Cartoon Network, Comedy Central, Fuse, MTV2 and the History channel than pay $45-$50 a month for an extra 300 channels I'll never watch. I couldn't imagine that this would be a technically difficult problem to overcome for the cable companies.

Instead of theoretical/philosophical arguments about what will happen to pricing, why not require the implementation of a la carte pricing in test areas, and see what actually happens? Pick, for example, three states at random, require unbundling in those states, and watch what the market tells us.

How can you defend the current system which is based on local franchise monopolies? Shouldn't those monopolies be broken? Shouldn't you attack the immoral cable monopolists instead of defending them?

The content providers are participating in that immoral system as well and profiting by it.

Verizon just pulled out of an attempt to break the NJ cable monoply legislatively. I assume they thought they'd lose.

Isn't it likely that once we get Sat, Cable, Phone, Power Co, and (multiple) Wireless delivery of content the whole content creation system will go away and we'll have ala carte anyway as we currently have on the net.
